Blizzard Lays Down The Law For Its Competitive OVERWATCH eSports League

Blizzard will require Overwatch eSports team owners to provide a minimum salary of $50k, health insurance and a retirement savings plan.

Blizzard just made a major move towards legitimizing the professional Overwatch eSports scene as it will now require team owners to supply each of its team members with an annual salary of $50,000, health insurance, a retirement savings plan, free housing during the competitive season and a 50% share of any tournament earnings.

During the competitive season, winnings totaling $3.5 million will be awarded across all the tournaments, with the overall top team guaranteed to earn at least $1 million. For example, that first place team will be awarded $500,000 dollars as a bonus which will be split among its members.  One of the best Overwatch teams in the United States is Team EnVyUs, which currently has a roster of 8 Overwatch gamers.  If they took home the top spot, that $500,000 bonus would be split 8-ways.  Other professional teams roster as few as 6 players while others have as many as 10.

Some notable Overwatch team owners include Robert Kraft who also owns the New England Patriots and Sacramento Kings co-owner Andy Miller.
