RUMOR: Nintendo Is Gearing Up To Release The NINTENDO 64 CLASSIC

The Super Nintendo Classic will be released later this fall, and recent trademark filings seem to indicate that Nintendo is gearing up for their next classic console, the N64.

The Nintendo 64 was released back in 1998, and captivated gamers everywhere with its state of the art (at the time) 3D graphics. Not only did the console feature ground breaking graphics, but sported an amazing library of games that included, Super Mario 64, The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and Goldeneye.

With the release of the Super Nintendo Classic this fall, Nintendo looks to tap into the same nostalgia that the NES Classic did. And while the system has not been released yet, the gaming giant could be setting its sights on the next classic console release.

Trademark filings in the European Union Intellectual Property office seem to point that Nintendo will release the Nintendo 64 Classic, not too terribly long after the Super Nintendo Classic. Polygon spotted that there were three trademarks, just basic black and white 2D art work, filed: One of the NES controller, one of the SNES controller and the third of a N64 controller.

What is important to note is that the trademarks filed, seem to be the logos for the classic series represented on the tops of the boxes as seen below.

As of right now, this is just an unconfirmed rumor. Grab you Super Nintendo Classic when it hits shelves later this Fall.
